4_What To Do When You’re Running Out Of Content Ideas?

One of the things people don’t talk about enough in affiliate marketing is this:

Sometimes… you simply run out of things to say, and when that happens, you start wondering:

  • Will my content come out poorly written?
  • Will this look like I didn’t put effort into it?
  • Am I forcing this?

If you’re documenting your journey like I am, this becomes very real.

Right now, I consistently create content in three places:

  • My Facebook page
  • My emails
  • My blog

Each one feels different.

Facebook is probably the easiest. Sometimes a single sentence is enough. A short thought. A quick lesson. A reminder. It doesn’t need to be long to be impactful.

Emails are manageable. I send about three per week. It can be challenging at times, but I can handle it. Once you build the habit, it becomes part of your rhythm.

But the blog?

That’s where things get interesting.

The blog requires longer, more structured content. It forces you to sit down and think. It’s not just a quick insight.

It has to flow. It has to make sense. It has to deliver something meaningful.

And while I don’t struggle every single time, there are definitely moments where I pause and think:

“What exactly am I going to write about now?”

WHAT’S YOUR EXPERTISE?

I’ve started realizing something important.

One of the easiest ways to avoid running out of ideas is to pick a niche you already have some level of expertise in.

If you already know a topic well, ideas come naturally because you’ve already experienced things. You’ve tested things. You’ve made mistakes. You’ve seen results. There’s material there.

Here’s one example: If your expertise is in fitness, you can share exercise tips to help people stay fit while promoting the fitness course you’re affiliated with. This can be done on your blog, in your emails, and in your social media posts.

As long as you can find a product or service that aligns with your expertise, this could be the best choice.

DOCUMENTING YOUR JOURNEY

But there’s a second option anyone can apply, and this is especially suitable for someone who doesn’t have a specific expertise:

Documenting your journey

Don’t create, but document!
Don’t create a fake version of it.
Don’t position yourself as something you’re not.
Actually document it.

This is actually the route I took, isn’t it! I’m documenting my affiliate marketing business.

Whenever I face struggles, I talk about them.
If I’m having trouble with funnels, I share what’s not working.
When I’m confused about offers, I explain what I’m trying to figure out.
When I test emails, I talk about the emails and the results they produce

But here’s the key most people miss:

For this to work, you actually have to be taking action. Because if you’re not taking action… you’ll have nothing to document.

Going back to the fitness example again: In this case, you are not the fitness expert giving out tips on how to stay fit, but you are the person who is actually trying to lose weight.

So tell your audience the good, the bad, and the ugly of your weight-loss journey, and make sure you are promoting the product you are using that’s helping you lose that weight.

This creates a connection with your audience because you become relatable. You are dealing with the same problems they want to solve.

The only difference is that you are one or two steps ahead of them, providing insights that could help them later if they choose to purchase the same product and embark on their own journey.

FOR BEGINNERS WHO DON’T HAVE EXPERTISE

If you’re just starting affiliate marketing, here’s something important:

You don’t need to be an expert to create content.

But you need to choose a niche or path you’re genuinely interested in, and stay a couple of steps ahead of your audience as you document your journey.

And if you feel stuck because you don’t know what to write about, here are some tips:

  1. What did I try this week?
  2. What worked?
  3. What didn’t?
  4. What did I learn?
  5. What will I do differently?
  6. What frustration am I experiencing?

That alone can fuel months of content, but again, it only works if you’re actually doing something.

Action first. Content second.

THE REASON I SOMETIMES RUN OUT OF IDEAS

If I’m being completely honest, there are moments when I don’t take action in my affiliate marketing business because…

Life gets in the way.
Personal responsibilities come up.
Lack of physical and mental energy on certain days.

And when action slows down, content slows down.

Most of my content comes from more recent experiences rather than someone with full expertise. For example:

  • A mistake I made a few months ago
  • A funnel I adjusted last week
  • An email that didn’t perform well recently
  • A realization I had yesterday

Action creates data.
Data creates lessons.
Lessons create content.

If you’re not taking action, you’re not generating new lessons.

So if you are someone who is documenting your journey and ever find yourself saying, “I don’t know what to write about,” ask yourself this first:

Have I been taking action consistently?

WHAT I DO WHEN I NEED HELP

Let’s say I already know what I want to talk about, but the problem lies in organizing my thoughts.

That’s when I do something very simple.

I open a Word document and brainstorm bullet-point sentences.

No overthinking.
No trying to sound smart.

I just dump messy sentences about that topic.

Then I copy and paste those bullet points into an AI tool like ChatGPT and let it help me reorganize the ideas into a more cohesive flow.

That’s exactly what I did with this blog post.

The ideas originated from me.
The experiences are mine.
The lessons are mine.

AI just helped me organize the structure.

Then I go back and edit everything:

  • Make it accurate
  • Make sure it reflects what I actually believe
  • Adjust the tone so it sounds like me
  • Remove anything that feels robotic

This method works well if you already know the topic but struggle with the flow.

Let the AI tool do the heavy lifting of structure, but you remain responsible for truth and clarity.

This is a tool I use, but I try not to overuse it because if I use it incorrectly, the authenticity declines. So you have to be careful.

INCLUDE YOUR AUDIENCE IN YOUR STORY

Always keep in mind how your experiences can benefit your audience. You are writing your content so your audience can ultimately benefit from it.

Always make them part of your writings. Make their problems relatable to your problems, as we are all in similar situations.

Not long ago, I heard something along the lines of:

“If people see you’ve escaped hell, they will want to escape their own hell with your help.”

You have to engage them emotionally and avoid making it sound like it’s all about you.

Talk about your personal experience, but do it with the sole intention of helping THEM.

This will take practice on your part, but hopefully you’ll get the idea as you start reading some of my recent blog posts.

THE NEXT STEP

If you’re serious about getting started with affiliate marketing and want a step-by-step path to follow, visit the following page.

My coach recently created what he calls the “Operating System” checklist. Essentially, an A-to-Z roadmap that complete beginners can follow to start and run their affiliate marketing business from scratch.

Many of the topics I discuss on my blog and in my emails align with this Operating System checklist.

I know there’s a lot of overwhelming information out there, which is why following a step-by-step plan created by someone who has already achieved success is often the best approach for most beginners.

And as always, I’ll continue documenting my journey. The wins, the slow days, the lessons, and the progress.

There are many things I still want to do, test, and discuss, and I will cover them in future blog posts. So stay tuned!

Warm Regards,
—Alberto
